As you may be aware, in Central Florida we live in an area that has one of the highest termite populations in the country. For this reason, it is vital that every homeowner know the signs to look out for that could indicate that they may have a termite infestation in their home. The fact is that termites can produce a great deal of damage to one’s home in a fairly short amount of time, which is why it is vital for homeowners to know how to spot a termite infestation so that they can catch it before the damage that these pests inflict becomes too costly. Here are a few of the major signs you should look out for that could indicate that you may require termite pest control.

You Find Mud Tubes on Your Internal or External Walls

Mud tubes are tubes built out of mud, dirt, and saliva that termites build to protect their colony from danger. These tubes have a very obvious appearance, however, if you have never seen them and do not know what they look like, a quick internet search can show you what to look for. If you see these tubes on your external or internal walls, then you have a termite infestation in your home. If you find these mud tubes on you internal walls, however, the infestation could be very serious. Either way, if you believe that you have spotted these mud tubes on your property, it is vital that you call an exterminator immediately.

You Notice Small Holes or Cracks in Your Homes Walls

While most of the damage termites inflict on a home is internal, periodically, termites will burrow out, which will create small holes in your walls. While other issues could create holes in your walls, there are signs you can look for that can indicate that these holes were created by termites. Often times, it is not the holes that alerts homeowners to the presence of termites, but instead, what alerts homeowners is what appears below these holes. Oftentimes, directly below these holes will be piles of either termite feces of wings. If you find a pile of what appears to be insect droppings or parts anywhere on your property, and/or you notice holes in your walls that could be indicative of a termite infestation in your home, contact a specialist as soon as possible to schedule an inspection.

Termites can inflict costly damage on your home, which is why it is so imperative that you know the signs that can indicate a termite infestation in your home.
