Silverfish are critters that you do not want to see in your home at any time. While you can kill them on the spot, this is not an effective method for controlling the silverfish population. It is best to get professional pest control to eliminate them entirely. After getting rid of them, you may want to stop them from coming back. You can do this by keeping them in mind when making changes to your home.

Removing Old Book Collections

Although you may love having old books around the house, especially in the basement or attic, they are something that will constantly attract silverfish. They munch on book glue, so these books have to go. It is perfectly fine if you want to put them in a climate-controlled storage unit where pests are not an issue. But, keeping this food source in your home is only asking for silverfish to come back.

Taking Down Wallpaper

Wallpaper is another source of food that silverfish enjoy eating. Whether you like the look or not, you should consider removing wallpaper because you can achieve your favorite style in other ways. It is even an option to paint your walls in a unique design that mimics the look of wallpaper.

Create Vertical Storage

Fabric is another favorite of silverfish, so towels, bed sheets, and clothing are all at risk. Since silverfish cannot climb smooth surfaces, you should look into adding vertical storage around your home. Storing all of your items made of fabric far off the ground will keep silverfish from feasting.
