The common house mouse is the most effective invasive mammal species on the planet, and for good reason. Their reproductive capability makes it almost a certainty that by the time you see one, there are many others out of sight. Mice reach sexual maturity at just one month old, so it doesn’t take a lot of time for these creatures to get out of hand.
These creatures can have an absolutely devastating effect on your home in a surprisingly short amount of time.
So how fast do they reproduce anyway?
Mice breed year round, reach sexual maturity at a young age, and they have large litter sizes to boot. They are no joke. Calling a licensed Tampa mouse exterminator is essential if you think you might have a rodent infestation. We want to help homeowners with DIY solutions when we can, but professional extermination really is the only way you can make sure that you remove these critters permanently.
Just one female mouse can give birth between five and ten times within a year. A mouse’s gestation period is somewhere around 3 weeks, and they can produce litters of a dozen or more. To top that off, there is no mouse “breeding season”. They go year round, which means that if two mice make a home in your home, you could easily be dealing with hundreds before long.
They don’t die quickly either. Mice can live up to 36 months if they have a safe spot indoors. Contrary to popular belief, they are also pretty hard to spot. They like to eat, hide, and breed, and when they make a nest inside a wall or in your insulation, they will create trails to common places they can find food and water. This means that you will rarely see them.
