Learning About Carpenter Bees

Many people are not familiar with carpenter bees. The fact that carpenter bees strongly resemble bumblebees only makes the situation more confusing. However, the problems associated with carpenter bees are very different from the issues that people will encounter when they’re dealing with bumblebees.

Carpenter Bee Behavior

People are used to following certain guidelines when dealing with most bees. Many people try to ignore the bees and stay away from them, although many different types of bees can still become difficult to deal with in some cases.

Only female carpenter bees are capable of stinging people, and their stings are very painful. While male carpenter bees cannot sting people, they’re certainly capable of bothering people. Male carpenter bees are often very confrontational, especially when people are anywhere near their nests. The location of those nests can be particularly problematic, since carpenter bees will construct their nests in people’s homes.

Household Damage from Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees can be similar to carpenter ants in terms of the destruction that they can cause. Of course, since carpenter bees can be so hostile towards humans, it’s often hard to ignore a carpenter bee infestation. People will usually stop these infestations relatively quickly, which might be why some carpenter ant infestations can be particularly destructive.

Still, carpenter bees can cause plenty of damage in a very brief period of time. They can fill a home with holes very quickly, even if that household was completely structurally sound previously. They’ll leave piles of wood shavings around in the process.

One of the worst things about carpenter bees is that they will actually make a household more vulnerable to future infestations. Other pests will gain access to the house because of those holes. Professional pest control services can stop this terrible situation from happening.
