We’ve all been there. It’s late at night, and you’re having a midnight cupcake baking session (okay, maybe only I’ve been there), you’re wearing flip flops, and suddenly, you feel a tingle on your foot, so naturally, you look down, and you see a cockroach bigger than your biggest toe, and you shriek (again, maybe just me), and stomp it into the hardwood.

Most people would stop right there, I mean they’d sweep it up of course, because no one wants anyone else to know that they’ve got roaches, even though we all do, but you’d go right back to your pizza (cupcakes), and forget all about it, until the next time it happens.

Pest control is one of those things that I never think about, and I’m pretty sure you don’t either, and there might be a few reasons for that. I’ve chosen to list them here, so we can shine some light on why many of us choose to never make the call and rid ourselves of the elephant that may be lurking under our sofas.

1. Pest control is too expensive.

It can be, if you’re talking about a huge termite problem, but most of the time, the problem you’re experiencing can be solved with one visit, and won’t set you back more than it would probably cost you to bring your car in for servicing, and I don’t know about you, but I value the peace of mind I get from knowing there’s nothing crawling around me while I sleep just as much as I like my car to start when I turn the key.

2. Pest control is hazardous, and can make you sick.

This doesn’t have to be true, because exterminators follow procedures to ensure that the creepy crawlies are the only ones gagging in your home.

3. Pest control isn’t necessary.

Okay, you’ve got me on this one, but let me ask you a question, what do you consider necessary? I mean, it’s necessary that you eat, but do you need to have a double bacon cheeseburger with fries to feel full at lunch? Pests can make you sick, very sick. I don’t need to bring up the bubonic plague, do I?

So the next time you ignore seeing that roach in the kitchen, or maybe even that mouse in the attic, ask yourself, is it just the one? Because they might outnumber you, and it may be time to bring in reinforcements.
