Summer bugs are back and ready to come inside your home. After all, your home is the perfect source of reliable food, water and shelter. Why wouldn’t they want to come in and stay? Flies Of Every Kind

The fly. Everyone’s favorite little bugger. Flies can enter your home the moment a door opens. Or, if you’re unlucky, they can be carried in on produce. Drain flies find their way in through, you guessed it, your drains. Unfortunately, flies can come from many places and they are difficult to remove once they’ve made it inside. Traps that contain fly attracting chemicals can help, but there is no guarantee that it will catch them. These summer bugs are better off outside. Prevent them by keeping doors and windows closed or screened, keeping surfaces free of food, and keeping trash cans clean.

Mosquitoes

Floridians know that this list wouldn’t be complete without the mosquito. Mosquitoes are active when the temperature rises above 70 degrees outside. Larvae can live in any standing water around your yard and can mature in 10 days. These pests are often carriers of diseases such as the Zika virus, West Nile virus, and heartworms. Much like the fly, these summer bugs find their way inside your home through openings. Limit your contact with these bugs by keeping your doors closed, wearing mosquito repellent, and eliminating any standing water in your yard.

Ants

Ants can find their way into your home through the cracks in your doors and window sills. While ants are an issue year-round, some species make their appearance in the home when it’s summer. Sugar ants are attracted to sweets. Fire ants and black ants gravitate to any food source they may find. Trashcans, pet food and open containers are sources of food. One ant can scout for found and call in a whole trail of ants when they are successful. Rain often forces ants to move to higher ground. During the summer, you will see an increase in ant mounds closer to your home or porch where the water drains effectively. Prevent ants by using regular lawn pest control and limiting potential food sources.

Roaches

Summer bugs include different species of roaches. Roaches can enter your home from under doors or cracks in window seals. They are attracted to any scraps of food they can scavenge. Your trash can, unswept floors and open food containers can bring them into your home. Often, they are found in dark, humid places and will scatter when they see light. Unfortunately, unless you are using preventative measures such as pest control or traps, you may be unaware of these pests until you already have an infestation. Roaches are capable of communicating diseases and can be harmful to you family.

Another prevention method is to have regular pest control service. Experts can identify areas of opportunity of pests, stopping a future infestation in its tracks. If your home or business is in need of pest control services, our team is happy to help. Contact us today.
