As our lawn care experts in Plant City can attest, there are many different creatures in Florida that can wreak havoc on St. Augustine grass. Sod webworms are one of the more common ones. If left untreated, they can turn a once dreamy lawn into a full-blown nightmare.

On a positive note, an effective and efficient solution to sod webworm infestations is just a phone call or an e-mail away. That’s because at Consolidated Pest Control, our lawn care experts are well familiar with sod webworms. So we can tell you whether or not a lawn is suffering from sod webworms or one of the following other pests:

  • Striped Grass Loopers
  • Fiery Skipper Worms
  • Fall Armyworms

All four have a tendency to be active in the spring. However, the sod webworms tend to be more prevalent in Plant City and the surrounding areas than the others. This is especially the case once outdoor temperatures reach the 70s (Fahrenheit).

To the naked eye, the worm’s larva appears to be less than an inch long and multicolored. In many instances, they are shades of yellow, brown and green with small, black spots. The creatures are also outfitted with mandibles, ferocious appetites and a taste for St. Augustine grass.

Once the sod webworms’ presence is detected, our lawn care experts will take the steps needed to eradicate them and provide nourishment to the grass to help it recover. We should also mention that there are several ways to eliminate the sod webworms and not all of them involve chemicals.
