Fleas, which belong to the insect order Siphonaptera, are small blood eating insects. We most commonly associate fleas with pets, but they are happy to make a meal of humans too. Many people approach flea control by using a monthly pet topical to kill off fleas on their pets but do nothing about the vast population of fleas outdoors.

Flea Populations and the Hidden Problem

Experts estimate that of the entire flea population around your home, that you see only about five percent of the total population. This is because an insect population is greater than just the adult fleas that you see on your pets or that hop on you for a quick blood meal. Fleas are adult, eggs, pupa, and larvae. So, while most pet treatments for fleas address only address the fleas on your pets. They do nothing about the flea eggs, pupa, or larvae in your carpet and around your home. They also do nothing about the huge population of fleas that are outdoors waiting to come inside on your shoes.

Flea Exterminators Kill Entire Flea Populations

When you have a pest outbreak of fleas, you notice them in your home, on your pet, and sometimes while you are outside. The outside population of fleas is quite large and they feed on rodents and mammals. They spread diseases such as bubonic plague, fleaborne spotted fever, and typhus. To address the entire population of fleas around your home requires that you also address the outdoor flea population too.

Outdoor Flea Control Leads to Indoor Flea Control

Treating your lawn and yard for fleas is important. It is not just your pets that bring fleas into your home. Fleas are happy to hitch a ride on your shoes, pants, and even your bare feet. Once inside your home they breed and the indoor flea cycle starts – Adult, eggs, larvae, and pupa. A qualified and experienced flea exterminator can safely address both the indoor and outdoor flea populations so that you live without flea bites, itchy pets, and the constant scratching.
