The first sight of a mouse scurrying across the floor is quite annoying. You did everything you could think of to prevent these filthy creatures from being attracted to your home yet here it is, taking up residence and creating a multitude of health hazards. What’s worse is that if you see one, then your home is more than likely dealing with several of them. They have probably built a nest inside of your walls or somewhere very close to your home. No matter how many of your childhood cartoons were based around trying to make mice cute, seeing one infesting your home is not cute at all. It’s gross and can lead to some serious problems.

Mice invasions can be detrimental to the health of your family. They introduce you to dangerous diseases and other nuisances like lice, fleas, and even ticks. Mice will also cause expensive damage and will chew through electrical wiring, creating a safety hazard. These chewed wires can spark, catch fire, and burn down your home. In fact, electrical fires are the most common cause of fires.

Mice can make their way inside of your home through the smallest of cracks. They only need a hole the size of a nickel to get through. Warmth and shelter attract these rodents. They will also chew their way into your home if they cannot find an easy access point. Once inside, it will build a nest and call in other mice to join. Before long, you will be dealing with a rodent infestation.

If these creatures can fit through holes the size of a nickel and chew their way inside, then how are you supposed to prevent them? Here are five simple tips that you can follow to help keep these rodents out of your home.

Five Simple Tips to Keep Mice Out of your Home

#1: Seal the Exterior: You will need to apply caulk around any vents and pipes to make sure there are no gaps. Do not allow easy entry points into your home. Sure, they will find other points but you do not want to make it easy on them.

#2: Seal Away Food: All food in your home should be sealed away in an airtight container. This includes dried goods like beans, grain, and rice. Don’t provide an easy meal for mice that enter your home.

#3: Dispose of Trash Immediately: Again, you don’t want to provide easy food for these rodents. Keep the trash cleaned up as often as possible.

#4: Set Traps: At the first sign of mice, you should set up traps. This will help weed out mice before they attract their friends.

#5: Get a Cat: Cats are natural predators so they will help keep the mice away. Plus they are an amazing pet so it’s a win-win.

If you find any signs of a mice infestation in your home, then it might be a good idea to call in a professional to help you get rid of the problem. They can inspect your home and point out potential entry points and help you kill off the ones that currently reside in your home.
