Wasps can become a huge problem if they are not handled immediately. They burden outdoor activities and make it much more difficult to perform outdoor work. Even though they rarely go out of their way to actually sting an individual, they will become hostile if threatened. The problem is that it doesn’t take much to threaten them and you might not even realize that you’re doing it. Warp stings are quite painful, but not fatal unless the individual has an allergic reaction to their venom.

We’re going to look at some of the best ways to eliminate wasp infestations and keep them away forever. Create a safe environment for your family by eliminating these nasty insects.

Eliminating Wasp Infestations Starts with Prevention

The most effective method of eliminating wasps is to keep them away in the first place. You have to start with prevention first. Otherwise, you are never going to get rid of the problem. Wasps will survey areas to find the best place to lay their nests. You can keep them from choosing your yard by removing unwanted food and making sure that your trash cans are covered. Consider everything that these wasps might be attracted to – pet food, sweet smelling lotions, and bird food.

You should also make sure you inspect the outside of your home for damage and fix it as quickly as possible. Certain types of crevices will serve as an ideal place for wasps to build their nests.

Certain Scents Repel Wasps

Redesigning your landscape to include green plants like thyme and spearmint will actually repel wasps and keep them from coming back. It’s the strong scent of these plants that annoy wasps to the point where they are not going to stick around. Grow them in your yard or in pots hanging around the outside of your home. Not only do these plants drive away these unwanted insects, they will enhance the visual appeal of your yard.

Peppermint oil is another way to repel wasps due to its strong scent. In fact, wasps have all minty scents so you have quite a few options here. So if you can’t grow the plants for some reason, you can apply oils to a cotton pad and place them around the outside of your home.

Build Wasp Traps

Wasp traps can be built out of sugar and water. The sugar attracts the wasps to fly into the container where they are then trapped. You can make these at home! Just cut a two-liter bottle and invert it inside of the bottom in a way so that when wasps fly into the container, they are not able to escape. Thus they will become trapped and eventually die.
